What is a Precinct Election Official?
Precinct Election Officials (PEOs) are qualified electors residing in the county and appointed by the county board of elections to conduct the elections in a polling location in that county.
Why am I needed?
Without our Precinct Election Officials' commitment to public service and their communities, elections would not be possible. PEOs help ensure that the election process at the polls is both fair and impartial and that the election laws set forth by the State of Ohio are properly carried out.
What does being a Precinct Election Official involve?
Attend a training Class
In-person training required of all PEOs usually takes about three hours and is offered at the Board of Elections office at 1802 Princeton Road, Hamilton, OH 45011. Training is offered during the weeks before Election Day with classes offered in the morning, afternoon and evening.
Set up your polling place on Monday Evening
PEOs are required to help set up their assigned polling place on the Monday evening before Election Day. Set up begins at 6:30pm and usually is complete by 8:30pm.
Serve the whole day on Election Day
On Election Day, PEOs must report at 5:30am to ready the location for voters. Polls are open from 6:30am to 7:30pm. All poll workers must remain at the location after the polls close to pack up equipment. Most PEOs are finished by 8:30pm. Breaks are offered throughout the day.
How much will I be paid?
PEOs in Butler County earn $202.05 each election.
Who is eligible to be a Precinct Election Official?
To be a PEO in Butler County, you must meet the following guidelines:
- A United States Citizen with transportation
- A registered voter in Butler County
- 17 and 18-year-old High School Students are also eligible
- Have never been convicted of a felony
- Able to read and write in English
- Willing to attend a training session
- Enjoy working with people
- Ability to lift 25 lbs with assistance from another individual
- Available for current or future elections
You will be assigned a polling place. Most of our polling places are in schools or other public buildings. Every effort will be made to place you in a location near your residence.
When am I needed?
